This symbol om – small in bronze refers to the graphics of one of the most sacred mantras of dharmic religions (Hinduism, Buddhism,..), symbolizing the divine brahma and the entire Universe. This mantra contains all the knowledge of the Vedas, being considered the absolute sound body, the sound of the Universe and the one that fertilizes the other mantras.
This symbol om – small in brass is a plate (table or wall) with approximate dimensions at its ends of 8 cm by 8 cm and a thickness of 2 mm. Its total weight is approximately 50 grams.
THE OM MANTRA
According to the Mandukya Upanishad, one of the Upanishads (Hindu scriptures that underlie Vedanta and its philosophy) Om or Aum is, in a symbolic interpretation “the unchangeable, it is all that exists, what was, what is and what will be. Everything is really the syllable Om, and everything that is not subject to triple time is also really the syllable Om.”
The Upanishads declare that everything that exists and that which does not exist can be controlled by foreshadowing the sacred syllable Om. Hindus believe it is effective to eliminate errors in fire sacrifices and meditation with Om satisfies all needs and leads to spiritual liberation. Most prayers and sacred readings are preceded by the utterance of Om.
Om represents union with the supreme, and the union of the physical with the spiritual. This sacred syllable is the first sound of the supreme from which all other sounds flow.
