About Yemanja
Iemanjá is a deity of the Umbanda and Candomblé cults, and is very popular in Brazil and Cuba. The name Yemanjá comes from the Yoruba translation “Mother whose children are fish”. Goddess of the Ogun river that crosses Abeokutá, in the New World she took the place of Olocum (the orixá of the sea in Africa) and became the Queen of the Seas and Oceans. The Rainha do Mar or Senhora das Águas, as she is also known, is one of the best known orixás in Brazil and worldwide. There is no son who does not bow at his feet in the sea.
