How to pray the rosary The prayer of the rosary begins at the cross that is at the end of the rosary with the prayer of the Creed. On the next (sometimes larger) bead, an Our Father is said. On the following three beads (generally smaller), three Hail Marys are said, the first in honor of the Creator Father, the second in honor of God the Son and the third in honor of God the Holy Spirit. On the next (sometimes larger) bead, the Glory Be to the Father is prayed. Next, we enter the phase of the mysteries; each mystery has ten Hail Marys and one Our Father, the rosary is composed of five mysteries. Each mystery can be called a ten. We start with an Our Father, followed by ten Hail Marys (smaller beads) ending with a decade or mystery (usually with a larger bead). This cycle is repeated successively for each mystery until the third is completed. Between each mystery, an ejaculation will be recited and at the end of the last mystery a prayer of the Hail Queen. When you finish your prayers of the rosary, you should recite the prayer of thanksgiving. The prayers of the rosary Creed (at the beginning) I believe in God the Father Almighty, maker of heaven and earth, and in Jesus Christ his only Son, our Lord, who was conceived by the Holy Spirit, born of the Virgin Mary, suffered under Pontius Pilate, was crucified, died and being buried, he descended into hell, on the third day he rose again, ascended into heaven, and is seated at the right hand of God the Father almighty, from whence he will come to judge the living and the dead; I believe in the Holy Spirit, the Holy Catholic Church, the communion of saints, the forgiveness of sins, the Resurrection of the flesh and eternal life. Amen. Our Father (usually on larger beads, at the end of each mystery) Our Father, who art in heaven, hallowed be thy name, thy kingdom come, thy will be done on earth as it is in heaven. Give us this day our daily bread and forgive us our trespasses as we forgive those who trespass against us and lead us not into temptation but deliver us from evil. Amen. Hail Mary (smaller beads) Hail Mary, full of grace, the Lord is with thee, blessed art thou among women and blessed is the fruit of thy womb, Jesus. Holy Mary, Mother of God, pray for us sinners now and at the hour of our death. Amen. Glory to the Father (at the end of every decade) Glory to the Father, the Son and the Holy Spirit. As it was in the beginning, now and forever. Amen! Jaculatory (after each Glory to the Father) O my Jesus, forgive us, save us from the fires of hell, lead all souls to heaven and help especially those who are most in need. Thanks (To conclude the prayer of the rosary) Infinite thanks we give you, Sovereign Queen, for the benefits that we receive every day from your liberal hands. Be worthy, now and forever, to take us under your mighty protection and to oblige you more, we salute you with a Hail Queen: Hail Queen, Mother of mercy, life, sweetness, our hope, save! To you we cry out, the banished children of Eve, to you we sigh, groaning and crying in this valley of tears. Come then, our Advocate, turn those merciful eyes of yours to us, and after this exile, show us Jesus. Blessed is the fruit of thy womb, O merciful, O pious, O sweet and ever Virgin Mary. Pray for us Holy Mother of God. That we may be worthy of the promises of Christ. (click on image to view)
