Book of the Art of Magic
Cornelius Rumstuckle is a fourth-generation Mage with roots in the Old World. He joined the Brotherhood of Mages in 1514 and became its youngest-ever resident seventy years later, a post he holds to this day. In a very amusing way, he explains to the reader how he will lead him to the Brotherhood of Mages:
“Here's how it goes: first, I'll teach you the Theory of the Art of Magic. Don't even think about skipping that part, because you can't. I won't have the country full of Mages who don't know what they're doing; it's too dangerous. Besides, you'll need a little theory if you want to survive the Mage's Adventure.
You won't start work until you understand the theory. You won't even make a magic wand, you won't even cast a spell until you know exactly what you're doing. I will not accept it. So study the theory carefully (it's not that hard). Then, when you have it on the tip of your tongue, you can move on to your next lesson. That's what they are – lessons. And lessons mean work. Work, work, work”.
