BRIEF CHARACTERISTICS OF IEMANJÁ Yemanjá is an orixá of African origin whose name derives from the Yoruba expression Yéyé omo ejá (“Mother whose children are fish”). In Afro-Brazilian religions, this female Orisha is the great womb of life on Earth. Iemanjá is the wife of Oxalá and the mother of the Orixás. Yemanjá, goddess of the sea, of salty waters, is strong, proud, strict, maternal, hardworking, available, majestic and calm. She is called Iyá, “Mother”, for being the great mother of origins. Yemanjá presents herself as beautiful, calm, sensual, dignified and fruitful; but, can be possessive, jealous and doesn't forgive easily when betrayed. Its color is Blue and White.
