About Saint Augustine
Saint Augustine was one of the most important theologians and philosophers of early Christianity. His works will give rise to the development of Western Christianity and philosophy. Bishop of Hippo, notorious Doctor of the Church and Father of the Church, he highlights some dogmas in his works such as the grace of Christ for human freedom, reformulating the doctrine of Original Sin or the Just War, in which the search for peace must include the option to fight to preserve it for the future.
Faced with the collapse of the Western Roman Empire, this Doctor of the Church presented the Catholic Church as the “spiritual” City of God, moving away from the earthly and material idea.
Saint Augustine died in Hippo in 430 AD, being canonized by popular acclamation and later recognized as Doctor of the Church in 1298 by Pope Boniface VIII.
