This book of mediums is the second volume of the Codification of Spiritism.

Soon after the publication of The Spirits' Book, a basic work of the doctrine, in 1857, Kardec launched, in 1858, a booklet entitled Practical Instructions on Spiritist Manifestations. It was an essay for the elaboration of the mediums' book, which only appeared in 1861. When this one was published, Kardec suppressed that one. Despite this, 62 years later, in 1923, Jean Meyer, then director of the Casa dos Espíritas, decided to re-edit the volume of Instructions, to circulate together with this work, as he considered that booklet useful for initiation into mediumistic matters. The purpose of this book is to develop the practical part of the doctrine, following the theoretical exposition of the basic book. That's why Kardec considered it a “continuation of The Spirits' Book”.

Even because, as stated in the Introduction, this book also belongs to the Spirits. It was they who guided it in its elaboration, they who revised and completely modified it for the second edition of 1862, which remained the definitive one and which served for this translation. This softcover book of mediums, from Estampa, has 368 pages.
