Horseshoe Symbology
The use of horseshoes as protective talismans originated in Europe, more precisely in Ancient Greece. For the Greeks, iron was the most powerful of the elements that protected them from all harm and, therefore, the horseshoe symbolized an amulet to attract positive energy and good luck.
In addition, farmers placed horseshoes above the doors of houses, barns and stables to ward off evil spirits. In addition, as its shape resembled the crescent moon, it mainly symbolized fertility and prosperity. In the same way, gypsies use the horseshoe as a talisman to ward off bad luck, which symbolizes fortune and good luck.
For this, the horseshoe position should be placed with the semi-circle downwards so that the points are facing upwards, towards the sky, in order to conserve luck. In some places, as in villages in Spain, horseshoes are placed with the points down, however, seeking the same purposes, that is, luck and divine protection.
In North America, the horseshoe is one of the most common talismans symbolizing magical protection, placed over the doorways of barns and stables with the points facing downwards. However, today it is usually placed upwards, like a good luck container or vase. In Mexico, horseshoes are sold with signs of the Saint "San Martin Caballero" in order to bring luck and protection.
