Búzios – the speech of the orixás
The book about the game and launch of the buzios!
Búzios – the speech of the orixás
The book Búzios – the speech of the orixás is not just one of many books about the game. While it is recognized that the general principles are almost the same in all Afro-Brazilian religions, there are differences between interpretations and beliefs in the various Candomblé nations and in different regions of the country. Thus, each new work that describes one more of these variants contributes with a piece to the formation of the vast mosaic of this orixás oracle. It is in this perspective that Búzios is situated – the speech of the orixás. The author aims to clearly describe, from his own religious experience, how the game is practiced in his Candomblé terreiro in Rio de Janeiro.
For the uninitiated this book is an excellent read and a stimulus for opening new horizons, however, it will not replace the importance of the experience acquired by the process of religious initiation. In the same way, the initiate will also benefit from reading it, objectively recording the most important data about the process of interpreting the results of the game. Thus, the work can serve as a memory aid, fulfilling a similar function to the old “spell book” so well known by the saint-children.
About the game of shells
The game of cowries is one of the most genuine Brazilian creations in the field of divinatory arts. Although its roots can be found in the game of Ifá of the African peoples, what is currently practiced in Brazil bears little resemblance to the original. For centuries shrouded in mystery, its secrets were only known to initiates considered apt for the practice of clairvoyance. Only a few years ago, however, this information began to be disseminated in books and orally, due to the need for its preservation and continuity, making its practice very popular and equally appreciated by the uninitiated.
